Qatar tribune Tribune News Network Doha Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) joined the global community in marking World Haemophilia Day on April 17 by highlighting the wide range of advanced services available in Qatar for people with bleeding disorders. The day serves as an important reminder of the need for high-quality care for all individuals affected by haemophilia and related conditions. HMC provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients with haemophilia, with over 65 adult patients currently receiving regular care at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

Among the services offered at HMC are: A weekly multidisciplinary virtual clinic, bringing together haematologists, pharmacists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and nurses to coordinate personalised care. Access to short half-life (SHL), extended half-life (EHL), and non-replacement therapies - making HMC one of the few centres in the region to offer this full spectrum of prophylactic treatment options. A dedicated musculoskeletal clinic at the Bone and Joint Centre, combining orthopaedic and physiotherapy care for joint health and injury prevention.

HMC is also introducing state-of-the-art treatments, including ultra-long half-life (UHL) therapies, which represent major advances in care for people with haemophilia. These cutting-edge treatments offer hope for better quality of life and reduced bleeding episodes. Dr Mohamed Osama Al Homsi, Senior Consultant in Oncology at NCCCR, said:“Hamad Medical Corporation has built one of the most advanced and comprehensive haemophilia services in the region - delivering high-quality, evidence-based care through a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

From access to the latest therapies to coordinated long-term management, our focus is always on improving outcomes and enhancing the lives of our patients. We are proud to raise awareness of these services on World Haemophilia Day and reaffirm our commitment to excellence in care.” To further support patients, HMC collaborates with the Qatar Friends Haemophilia Group, a patient-led advocacy organization that supports education and awareness for both patients and healthcare professionals.

Dr Ahmed Bahey, Clinical Pharmacist Specialist at Hamad General Hospital emphasised, “On World Haemophilia Day, let’s unite to raise awareness about haemophilia, a condition that affects millions. Together, we can advocate for better treatment, empower those living with this disorder, and ensure that no one faces their journey alone. Knowledge is power - let’s spread the word and support a brighter future for all affected.

” As part of World Haemophilia Day, HMC, in partnership with the Qatar Friends Haemophilia Group and the Saudi Haemophilia Society, is hosting a series of expert-led awareness sessions featuring local and international speakers. The event aims to promote education, equity, and access to care for individuals living with bleeding disorders. Copy 23/04/2025 10.
