Piling and concreting works for the new Hopkins Road bridge in Truganina are progressing two years ahead of schedule, marking a milestone in the project’s construction.Between February and April, two massive piling rigs—each weighing up to 95 tonnes—dug 48 holes. These holes were then filled with 280,000 litres of concrete to create the foundation for the new road bridge, which will carry vehicles safely over the rail line.
The bridge will also include a separated pedestrian and cycling path. The next phase of the project will see crews begin constructing the bridge piers, positioning 14 L-shaped panels to form retaining walls, and pouring the bridge support wall. Later this year, 27 giant support beams will be lifted into place to form the bridge deck.
The new road bridge is set to open in 2026—two years ahead of schedule.“The level crossing removal on Hopkins Road will greatly improve safety, reduce congestion, and boost productivity, so there are significant benefits in the early delivery of this project for residents and businesses,” said City of Melton Mayor, Cr Steve Abboushi. The post Hopkins road bridge on track appeared first on Melton & Moorabool.
