2 million — will go to the RM of Yellowhead for its Shoal Lake water infrastructure replacement initiative. Other projects have been approved for the municipalities of Roblin, Swan Valley West and Minitonas-Bowsman. Bridges and culverts will be part of the Shoal Lake project, the province said in a press release Tuesday.

Municipality of Yellowhead Mayor Merv Starzyk welcomed the announcement. “I am excited at the news that the province is advancing funds towards our infrastructure project at the south end of our lake,” Starzyk said. “The funding is greatly appreciated and now council will move forward with final design and review avenues to source matching funds.

Once completed, the project that has been planned for many years would see reality.” Roblin is set to receive up to about $469,000 for a waste disposal cell and leachate evaporation pond construction. The project will support solid waste management in the area.

The Municipality of Swan Valley West is earmarked for $90,000 for an environment upgrading proposal at the Benito Landfill. The Municipality of Minitonas-Bowsman will receive $50,000 for preliminary engineering design and environmental assessment of Beals Ford Crossing. The project is for bridges and culverts.

Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced the funds as part of the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities program. “This program was launched to help Manitoba municipalities advance critical infrastructure projects that will support growth and sustainability in their communities,” said Simard. “These projects will allow local governments to upgrade the critical infrastructure that will promote economic development and serve Parkland residents well into the future.
