ABUJA : Former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Governo and APC Chieftain, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has called on the Federal and State Governments to urgently address the root causes of insecurity across Nigeria, warning that surface-level solutions would not end the persistent killings in Benue, Plateau, Niger, and other parts of the country. Speaking during a virtual media parley with journalists on Saturday, Nwosu emphasized that for the insecurity crisis to be effectively tackled, authorities must go beyond deploying security forces and involve traditional rulers, community leaders, women, and youth groups. He, however , commended the President for putting motion in place to ensure that the killing stops.
“If you want to cure a disease, you must first find the symptoms. Without identifying the root causes, you will end up applying wrong solutions,” he said. “The federal and state governments must work closely with local communities to secure information and jointly fight these threats.
” Nwosu proposed the establishment of state police and Community Council Governments, where traditional rulers serve as chairmen alongside leaders of traders, transporters, youths, and women’s groups. According to him, such grassroots structures would enhance intelligence gathering and empower communities to take ownership of their security. He also urged tighter border control, stressing that many of the bandits wreaking havoc were foreigners entering Nigeria through porous borders.
“We must secure our boundaries with neighboring countries to stop external threats,” Nwosu added..
