Hollywood is gearing up to adapt The Sims into a big-screen movie – but will it star Dave Bautista and Reese Witherspoon? Something has changed with video game movies and other adaptations. In the 2000s, good ones were few and far between; for every success, such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil, you had the likes of Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Doom, and Max Payne. Now, you have acclaimed shows like The Last of Us and Arcane , and box office smash-hits like A Minecraft Movie and The Super Mario Bros Movie (which also happens to be one of the highest-grossing movies ever made ).

What’s happening with The Sims movie? A movie based on The Sims is in the works, with Margot Robbie and her production company LuckyChap (which worked on Barbie) attached to the project. Kate Herron (who worked on Loki) is set to direct the film, and she’ll also co-write the screenplay with Briony Redman (Doctor Who, The Inside Man). “What I will tell you is it’s very much rooted in The Sims universe, and what we want is to have a truly authentic Sims experience brought to a theatrical release,” Kate Gorman, vice president at EA, told Variety.
“So what you’ll see from us is that we have been wanting to get this right. We wanted the right partners and to make an impact the size of something like a Barbie movie is exactly what we want. And we know there’s so much love and nostalgia, probably beyond what we would even realize, for The Sims and so many people like us have played throughout generations.
