IVE’s Yujin Addresses Major Change In Her Appearance Compared To Past Yearbook Photos

IVE member Yujin recently addressed the change in her appearance after some of her old school photos were revealed to the public. Yearbook photos are often used as a reference for judging how naturally beautiful Korean celebrities were in their younger years or to determine whether they had any work done to improve their visuals. Though this practice is questionable in principle, it is a widespread part of K-fan culture.

Producer Na Young Seok proposed a game in which the four members had to recreate their past outfits or looks. As the game began, the cast members’ old pictures were revealed one by one, including Yujin’s.



In her elementary school photo from 2015, Yujin already appeared to have her unmistakably strong facial features. But her eyes appeared much smaller behind her thick glasses. The picture prompted some teasing from her castmates, and Yujin responded by revealing that she had a severe case of nearsightedness.

Hence, the thick glasses made her eyes look much smaller in the photo. My prescription was -9 back then. That’s why I looked funny and my eyes looked small.

— Yujin Her castmates playfully suggested that Yujin recreate that photo by gaining weight, wearing the same clothes, and even getting the same haircut. The IVE member added, “ Then I’d have to undo my braces too,” revealing that she had also undergone orthodontic treatment, which further enhanced her visuals in the long run. This lighthearted moment of honesty showcased once again the laid-back charm of Yujin.
