Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere secured his first managerial job on Tuesday when he was named the interim manager of Championship side Norwich City. Wilshere will take over the reins from Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was relieved of his duties. Wilshere was part of Thorup’s coaching staff and will be in charge for the final two games of the season, against Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.
He will be assisted by Tony Roberts and Nick Stanley. Norwich is currently 14th in the points table in the Championship, the second-tier in England, with 53 points. “The club will now progress with its plans of appointing a new permanent head coach in due course,” the club said in a statement.
Wilshere made 197 appearance for the Gunners, scoring 14 goals and assisting another 28. He won two FA Cups and a Community Shield with the side. He also played for Bournemouth and West Ham in the Premier League.
