Lesley Stahl is “devastated” by the major change that is set to come for CBS News’ 60 Minutes . It was just announced that executive producer Bill Owens is leaving his job amid President Donald Trump ‘s lawsuit against CBS News. In a letter to staff, he cited an increasing lack of ability “to make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes , right for the audience,” according to Variety .

Lesley has been a member of the 60 Minutes team for 35 seasons and she said in a new interview that Bill “represented everything in a boss you could want.” She is calling out the current practices at Paramount. Keep reading to find out more.

“That is not the way that companies that own news organizations should be acting.” She added that Bill “just couldn’t abide the interference. We hope that this message reaches our bosses, that we have a reputation to uphold.

It’s one of the reasons that CBS News is valuable. It’s what 60 Minutes stands for, and we can’t lose that. We can’t afford to lose that.

We have lost our boss because of it. It’s just crushing.” So many news anchors have been exiting their shows in 2025.
