Buchanana – The Head of the European Union Delegation to Liberia, H.E. Nona Deprez, and French Ambassador Isabelle Le Guellec recently concluded a high-level visit to ArcelorMittal Liberia’s operations in Buchanan and Yekepa.

The visit underscored the importance of international collaboration and reaffirmed shared commitments to sustainable development, economic growth, and local empowerment in Liberia.During the tour, the ambassadors were briefed on the company’s operations, with a particular focus on the Phase II Expansion Project, which involves significant investment in critical infrastructure including the railway, port, and mining facilities.In Buchanan and Yekepa, the delegation engaged directly with ArcelorMittal’s team and witnessed firsthand the progress made in strengthening operational capacity and community development initiatives.



EU Ambassador Nona Deprez remarked: “I commend ArcelorMittal’s long-term commitment to Liberia. Its substantial investments in the railway and concentrator will create more jobs and domestic revenue for the Liberian people.”The tour also included a visit to the ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy, where hundreds of young Liberians are receiving world-class vocational education and skills training to prepare them for future careers.

French Ambassador Isabelle Le Guellec noted: “This visit was essential to better understand the tremendous and unwavering commitment of ArcelorMittal to Liberia since 2005—even through challenging times such as the Ebola crisis. The company’s continued investment in infrastructure, job creation for thousands of Liberians, and support for community and vocational development is truly impressive. I sincerely thank and congratulate AML for their efforts.
