WessehIn a formal statement issued under the signature of its National Secretary General, Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, the Bar underscored the need for voters to act responsibly as the country seeks to strengthen its democratic credentials.



The by-election is expected to fill a vacant Senate seat in one of Liberia’s most politically active counties.“As Liberia continues to consolidate its democratic credentials, it is imperative that all eligible voters in Nimba County exercise their rights responsibly, peacefully, and in full respect of the rule of law,” the LNBA stated.Cllr.

Varmah commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for its continued efforts to uphold electoral integrity in the country and extended appreciation to local and international partners for their ongoing support toward ensuring credible, transparent, and peaceful elections in Liberia.However, the Bar also highlighted several pressing concerns that could potentially hinder the fairness of the process. These concerns include limited civic and voter education across remote areas of Nimba County, which may impact informed participation in the election.

The LNBA stressed that access to adequate voter education remains crucial for empowering citizens to make informed decisions at the polls.The Bar also pointed to logistical and administrative issues within the electoral process that could diminish public confidence if not addressed in a timely and transparent manner. Additionally, Cllr.

Varmah noted the possibility of political tension and security risks during the electoral period. These risks, he said, must be closely monitored and mitigated through coordinated efforts involving the NEC, political actors, security agencies, and civil society organizations.Cllr.

Varmah urged political parties, independent candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves with civility and avoid actions that could incite violence or undermine the democratic process. He warned that acts of intimidation, incitement, or electoral violence must not be tolerated and should be addressed through appropriate legal channels.“The Bar strongly cautions all anti-democratic elements, whether acting directly or indirectly, to refrain from interfering with the ongoing democratic process in Nimba County,” he emphasized.

Cllr. Varmah made it clear that any attempts to subvert the will of the people or destabilize peace and security in the country would be viewed as serious threats to Liberia’s democratic gains and national stability. He warned that the Bar would not hesitate to recommend appropriate sanctions, both domestically and internationally, against individuals or groups found to be undermining the process or promoting instability.

The LNBA stressed that the people of Nimba must be allowed to freely exercise their civic and democratic responsibilities without the infusion of conflict, intimidation, or coercion. Cllr. Varmah emphasized that the integrity of the electoral process must be preserved at all costs to ensure continued peace and development.

“The LNBA stresses that any attempt to subvert the will of the people or to destabilize the peace and security of the country constitutes a grave threat to Liberia’s democratic gains and national stability,” he stated.Reaffirming its role in protecting legal and democratic norms, the LNBA said it is closely monitoring developments related to the by-election in Nimba County. The Bar called on all political actors, community leaders, and citizens to respect the rule of law and the constitutional rights of all eligible voters.
