Auburndale flag football head coach Gloria Choquette and the entire Auburndale flag football team’s mentality was to focus on the game and play one game at a time. The Bloodhounds (11-2) knew in the Class 3A, District 6 semifinal game that Sebring would bring their experience, but it was up to Auburndale to take it one play at a time. With this mindset in full effect, the Bloodhounds were still down early but fought, battling adversity and eventually overcoming the challenge, winning the seminal matchup 14-7.
The No. 28 program in Class 3A will play in the district championship game against Lakeland Wednesday at home, and with a win, it will be the program’s first-ever district championship. “It feels good to see the girls make history, but the job is not finished.
Lakeland is a well coached program and we are going to have to bring our best game against them,” Choquette said. “We had a rough end to last year and this was our comeback season to show everyone what we can do and I feel like we’ve done that so far. I give all thanks to God for giving us this opportunity and I hope that we can make a deep playoff run.”Potentially sparking a deep playoff run were the playmakers in the district semifinal game: Serman threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Jakara Holland as well as a 15-yard touchdown pass to Christianelle Rebarchek.
Defensively, it was a collective effort, as the team’s defense had key stops in Bloodhound territory. There were a few goal line stops, too.In other news, Haines City (15-0), the No.
