New York City police have shut down a surprise appearance by Kiwi singer Lorde at a popular square after fans arrived in droves trying to catch a glimpse of her. Lorde - born Ella Yelich O’Connor - posted on her Instagram and her Whatsapp groupchat for her fans telling them too meet her “in the park at 7pm” along with a photo of Washington Square Park. Fans started flooding the park an hour before her appearance with many sharing photos online of eager fans scaling trees to catch a glimpse of the Royals hitmaker.
