A verdict has been reached in Lori Vallow Daybell 's latest case. The Arizona mother—who was previously convicted of murdering her two children in an alleged doomsday plot—has been found guilty of conspiracy to commit the first-degree murder of her fourth husband Charles Vallow in 2019. During the Phoenix, Ariz.
, trial, prosecutors said that Lori planned her former partner's killing with her brother Alex Cox in order to get his $1 million life insurance policy and be with her current husband, Chad Daybell , NBC News reported. Meanwhile, the matriarch—who represented herself in the case—pleaded not guilty to her husband's murder, alleging that her brother killed Charles out of self-defense following a family argument, per the outlet. As for Alex—who prosecutors believe fatally shot Charles during a confrontation in Lori's Arizona home in July 2019—he died of natural causes four months after his brother-in-law's death and was never charged.
Lori's trial for the murder of Charles kicked off in March, nearly two years after she was convicted in Idaho of first-degree murder for the 2019 killings of her 7-year-old son Joshua "JJ" Vallow and her 16-year-old daughter Tylee Ryan, as well as conspiring to kill Chad's first wife Tamara "Tammy" Daybell . The 51-year-old—who, along with Chad, was accused by prosecutors of ordering her brother to kill her children and Tammy after becoming obsessed with doomsday-focused religious beliefs—was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without parole. (In a separate 2024 trial, Chad was also convicted on all charges for the three murders and sentenced to death.
) Despite her guilty convictions, Lori has continued to deny any wrongdoing in the murders and expressed hope that she will be proven innocent . "After I get exonerated," she told NBC Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison in a March 7 interview, "maybe I’ll go on Dancing With the Stars and you can come." Lori also alleged that the media has blown her involvement in the cases out of proportion.
"They exaggerate everything and they make stuff up and they twist things around," she said. "So, I don't know how it became what it is today. It's amazing to me.
