A man identified as Muhammad Ma’aba from Fujeregi village in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State has reportedly died after being assaulted. Local sources say the attack occurred along the road between Saganuwa and Fujeregi. Ma’aba was allegedly ambushed by a group led by Alhaji Yikangi of Chikan village, the ex-husband of the woman Ma’aba planned to marry.

The incident is believed to be linked to a prolonged dispute involving Fatima Suleiman, who was previously married to Yikangi. After being divorced by him three times under Islamic law—rendering any future reconciliation impossible—Fatima had reportedly intended to remarry, a decision Yikangi allegedly opposed. Confirming the incident, Niger State Police Command spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun stated on Friday: “On April 17, 2025, at about 2:00 PM, we received a report that one Alhaji Yikangi of Chikan village, along with others, attacked Muhammad Ma’aba of Fujeregi village.

The assault was reportedly due to a disagreement concerning Fatima Suleiman. Ma’aba sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Lemu General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.” Abiodun added that a police investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend all suspects involved in the attack.
