The Mayor of Bolton has shared an inspiring tribute following the death of Pope Francis earlier this week. Mayor Councillor Andy Morgan lit a memorial candle for the late Pope in the Mayor’s Parlour – to commemorate his many achievements and the high regard in which he was held. Pope Francis, who died aged 88 on Easter Monday at the age of 88, was laid to rest in Rome on April 26.

The Catholic faithful are bidding a final farewell to a religious leader dubbed the “people’s pope”, whose death sparked tributes from across the globe. Speaking to The Bolton News, Cllr Andy Morgan said: "This morning, I lit a candle in memory of the Pope on behalf of Bolton.



"His deep faith was a guiding light, not only for Catholics but for all people of all backgrounds. "He reminded us that true leadership is rooted in compassion, humility and the inclusion of all, regardless of faith or race. "Today, I, like many, reflect on the legacy he leaves behind, one of unity, peace and hope.
