Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister; Hudson, NH Nancy J. (Allen) Newton, R.N.
, 80, formerly of Pelham, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening at the Ridgewood Center in Bedford, NH. She was the loving wife for over 58 years of Charles T. Newton, who survives her.
Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late George and the late Jean (MacLeod) Allen, she attended Somerville schools and was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1962. She went on to attend Mt. Auburn School of Nursing where she received her accreditation as a Registered Nurse.
After completing her education, Nancy worked at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA and Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA. Her career pivoted after the birth of her eldest son when she concentrated her efforts to raise her family of three boys.
Once the boys were older she returned the workplace with a long career at Sears in the catalog department as well as the Hallmark Store and her favorite job at the Craft Workshop in Salem, NH. Among her many interests, she was an avid crafter – mastering needlepoint and macrame among other arts and crafts. With her mother, Jean, she kilned the family’s formal dinner setting.
She also enjoyed gardening, both her flower gardens, especially marigolds and her vegetable garden. She loved collecting Precious Moments Figurines. Her collection is extensive.
She was a strong supporter her three sons, cheering them on basketball, soccer and baseball games as well as attending band concerts, piano recitals and school plays. A devoted wife and mother, Nancy is survived by her husband Charles, three sons Dr. Thomas C.
Newton and his husband John Hackett of Arlington, VA, Kevin A. Newton and his wife Leah of Sutton, MA and Paul R. Newton of Hudson, NH; four grandchildren Logan Newton, Madelyn Newton, Maddix Newton and Elly Newton; four great grandchildren Hailey, Avery, Eli and Karsyn; a sister Donna Centrella and her husband Anthony of Merrimack, NH and many nieces and nephews.
The Visitation will be held at PELHAM FUNERAL HOME 11 NASHUA RD. in PELHAM, NH on Thursday, April 17th from 4 to 7 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday morning, April 18th, at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME at 10:30 A.M. followed by her burial in the Gibson Cemetery in Pelham.
