Navy inside linebacker Colin Ramos has accepted an invitation from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to attend its rookie mini-camp, May 8-11.Ramos was also invited to the Giants’ minicamp, but the New Jersey native already accepted the Buccaneers offer. “I’m excited to get the opportunity to showcase my skills in Tampa,” Ramos told Capital Gazette in an email.
“All I’ve ever asked for in life is an opportunity to prove myself. So I am grateful and excited for this opportunity.”Ramos is represented by Forever Athlete Management, which announced via social media that he had accepted the invitation to minicamp.
Ramos performed in front of a dozen scouts representing 10 NFL teams during Navy’s pro day in March. He bench pressed 225 pounds a total of 23 times, posted a vertical jump of 30 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet, 6 inches.Ramos has run the 40-yard dash as fast as 4.
7 seconds and posted solid times in the 20-yard shuttle (4.46 seconds) and three-cone drill (7.20).
At 5-foot-11 and 214 pounds, Ramos is undersized for an NFL inside linebacker, but spent the past four years proving that he plays much bigger. Navy defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach P.J.
Volker has pointed out that Ramos compensates by being able to read and react at a high level.“I just love the way Colin Ramos plays football. He’s extremely physical and violent.
He’s as instinctual a linebacker as I’ve ever coached,” Volker said last season. “Colin can slip a block, but he’s also really sudden with his block destruction. He’s going to do everything in his power to win his one-on-one matchup one every play.
”Ramos became a starter toward the end of his freshman season and was a fixture in the lineup ever since. He appeared in 45 games with 37 starts and totaled 327 tackles (27 1⁄2 for loss), nine sacks, seven pass breakups and six forced fumbles.Ramos was named first team All-American Athletic Conference for the second straight season after leading Navy with 129 tackles.

That was the second-best single-game total in the Football Bowl Subdivision this season behind Eastern Michigan linebacker James Djonkam, who made 22 against Buffalo. Ramos notched double-digit tackles in six games, including 15 against Temple and Notre Dame, and ranked 10th nationally in tackles per game (9.9).
Ramos was a two-time recipient of the Tony Rubino Memorial Silver Helmet Award, presented to Navy’s most outstanding player by the Touchdown Club of Annapolis.Ramos, who served as Navy’s defensive captain as a senior, is set to graduate with a history degree and be commissioned as a Marine Corps officer in May. He is slated to remain at the Naval Academy on temporary assignment duty and will serve as a graduate assistant for the football program during the fall semester.
