A lot went down for the Atlanta Hawks on Monday. Most notably, Landry Fields was relieved of his duties as general manager, with the Hawks promoting Onsi Saleh from within to take his place. Fields didn’t have a lot of success as the Hawks general manager in terms of wins and losses, but he was thrust into a difficult situation and did a pretty damn good job of setting the team up for the future .

Atlanta features an ultra-talented and young starting five with no bad contracts on the books. About the only negative aspect of the Hawks’ current situation is that they don’t own their first-round picks for the next few years because of the Dejounte Murray trade, but that was a deal that happened prior to Fields’ time as general manager. However, even though Atlanta does not own their first round pick this year, they have a great chance of picking in the first round not once but twice.

The Hawks acquired the Lakers first-round selection when they sent Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans, which will be 22nd overall this year, and they will also likely receive the Kings first round pick , which will be at the backend of the lottery. Official: The Hawks will have the No. 22 pick (via LAL) in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The Kings pick will enter the lottery at No. 13 and Atlanta is very likely to receive that selection. The only way the Hawks do NOT get the Kings pick is if SAC jumps to the top 4 on lottery night.

— Brad Rowland (@BTRowland) April 21, 2025 Providing nothing crazy happens, the Hawks will have two first-round picks in this year’s draft, giving them even more ammo to make a significant splash this offseason if they see fit. They could also package the selections to move up the board or add a two-man rookie class to continue building out the depth of the roster. If today told us anything, it’s going to be an eventful offseason in Atlanta.
