Netflix Ransom Canyon author promises big surprises in store as series premieres

Ransom Canyon, which stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, has finally premiered on Netflix, with the program being dubbed 'Yellowstone meets Virgin River'

Ransom Canyon fans have waited patiently for the Netflix adaptation of Jodi Thomas' books and now the series is finally here. The brand new show, which has been described as the new Yellowstone and Virgin River , landed on the streaming giant on Thursday. The series, which has 10 episodes, revolves around three ranching families vying for control over their land.

Staten Kirkland (played by Josh Duhamel) is at the heart of the drama as he tries to overcome a devastating loss . Staten sees hope in the form of long-time family friend Quinn O'Grady (Minka Kelly). However, as the fight to save Ransom continues, a mysterious cowboy arrives in town, unearthing secrets from the past In celebration of the season's premiere, Ransom Canyon's author spoke to The Mirror US about what fans can expect.



Explaining the plot, Thomas said, "It's a story that takes place in Texas since Texas is my home. I'm a fifth generation Texan, so I tried to make the people authentic." When asked if the show would be sticking to the plot of her books, Thomas teased, "I think there's going to be surprises to me!" She also heaped praise on the casting of Duhamel and Kelly in the leading roles.

"He's exactly what I saw and she's beautiful," the writer gushed. Netflix's Jinny Howe previously said about Ransom Canyon, "It's Virgin River meets Yellowstone. We think that it's going to deliver on all the romance and again it will be a really beautiful vista and setting, very escapist.

" In response to these comments, Thomas told us, "I agree that there will be romance in really beautiful Texas country. Sometimes people think Texans are wild. I think they just sometimes live BIG.

" Ransom Canyon may have only just dropped on Netflix, but fans are already raving about the new show. "Ransom Canyon, here I come! Just when I thought I was done with binge-watching, Netflix is dropping another fire show," one person raved on X. Another posted, "@joshduhamel and Minka Kelly is the duo I never knew I needed," while a third viewer said, "Startet to watch Ransom Canyon.

Only one ep in but this series has the potentioal to get me hooked." Someone else commented, "I'm already in love with this show, I knew it would win me over, and I'm also already obsessed with Lucas and Lauren, I love them so much!" Collider has praised the show saying, "Newest comfort drama, Ransom Canyon, is a craveable escapist adventure for all those currently trying to distract themselves from increasing grocery prices and nonstop news intake." Ransom Canyon may be more easily comparable to the likes of Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias, but this Western soap is another stellar example of Netflix's growing library of cozy dramas that deserve more attention."
