FORT HUACHUCA — Once the Army is given more authority to deter illegal incidents at the southern border under President Trump’s latest directive to set up military installations along the Roosevelt Reservation, the area will be considered an “extension of Fort Huachuca,” a U.S. Department of Defense article shows.

The Roosevelt Reservation is the 60-foot-wide portion of the southern border of the United States — from the border and north 60 feet — in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Federal and tribal lands make up 632 miles, or approximately 33% of the nearly 2,000 miles of border. Private and state-owned lands constitute the remaining 67 percent of the border, most of which is located in Texas.
