A new interactive rock musical is set to debut at this year's Brighton Fringe Festival. The Angel of Death Will See You Now, created by Trim Tab Productions, promises to be "dark, dazzling, and delightfully interactive." The production follows the story of James, a science teacher who finds himself in Death's Waiting Room after a failed mugging.
To escape, he must justify his existence to the Angel of Death and the audience, who will decide his fate through a series of quiz rounds. The Angel of Death, who is described as "part judge, part gameshow host, part exhausted civil servant," will preside over this purgatory. The show will feature a score of rock anthems, ballads, and a quiz show singalong, all while exploring themes of fear, regret, and free will.
A mysterious figure will also emerge, throwing everything into question. Saskia Wesnigk-Wood, the director, said: "I was thrilled to be invited to direct the new show by the Trim Tab team, the music is stunning and the story will have you at the edge of your seat. "It might also make you question some of your own life choices - remember: you only get one life.
.. or do you?" Dr James Mannion, writer and performer, said: "The Angel of Death Will See You Now.
.. is part game show, part fever dream, and part philosophical slap in the face.
"I wrote it to make people laugh, think, rock out - and perhaps even look at their lives a little differently. "I’ve been writing and performing various versions of this story for the last 25 years. "With this production, I feel like it’s finally come of age.
"I can’t wait to see what people make of it." The show is suitable for ages 12 and up and has a duration of 90 minutes. There is no strong language, violence, or sexual references.
The Angel of Death Will See You Now will be performed at the Brighton Unitarian Church on May 4 at 7.30pm, May 10 at 2pm and 7.30pm, May 11 at 7.
