Chef Nick Wong and Lisa Lee opened Agnes and Sherman in Houston, offering Asian American cuisine with a personal twist at the former Alice Blue location.

Agnes and Sherman is a new addition to the Houston dining scene, offering a fresh take on Asian American cuisine in a cozy diner setting. The restaurant is founded by veteran chef Nick Wong, who previously worked at New York's Momofuku and Houston's UB Preserv, in collaboration with entrepreneur Lisa Lee. It is located in the Heights at the former Alice Blue location on 250 West 19th St, according to Houston Eater.

Wong, a second-generation Chinese American, brings his personal story to the menu, blending flavors from his Asian heritage and American culinary journey. His approach combines international influences with comfort food, offering diners a unique experience. As he shares, "As a uniquely Houston restaurant, we hope to be known as the city’s neighborhood spot that’s expanding the meaning of Americana, telling stories through food and incorporating socially responsible business practices as a way to promote equality and equity in our society," as reported by Houston CultureMap.

Agnes and Sherman, a new restaurant from Wong, offers dishes like al pastor fried rice and scallion waffles with sambal honey butter. Other items include youtiao replacing croutons in a wedge salad and an Old Fashioned-inspired cocktail with Pei Pa Koa, an herbal Chinese cough syrup. Wong, formerly the chef at UB Preserv, was named one of Texas Monthly’s Best New Restaurants in 2018.

He said, "I've been able to find a depth of community and culture here that I'll never find the bottom of no matter how much I dig," as per Houston CultureMap. The restaurant began dinner service on Thursday, and is open Thursday through Monday from 5 to 10 pm. Reservations are available on OpenTable.
