Nissan drivers can receive up to $5k from ‘defect’ settlement – all you need is receipt

The case was filed in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.It covers Nissan Murano models made from 2015 to 2018.Maxima vehicle models 2016 to 2018 might also have the defect, which affects cars equipped with a continuously variable transmission.



Drivers who bought or leased one of these cars before April 4, 2025, could be eligible for the settlement.The lawsuit alleges that Nissan knew the CVT system was faulty but didn’t tell consumers.It claims the transmission can lead to poor performance or even complete failure.

Nissan hasn’t admitted wrongdoing but agreed to settle the lawsuit.Under the terms of the deal, drivers may get a warranty extension, repair reimbursements, or a voucher for a new vehicle.The warranty extension covers the CVT for 84 months or 84,000 miles, whichever comes first.

It includes the transmission assembly, control unit, valve body, and torque converter.Drivers who paid for repairs after their factory warranty expired, but before the new extension kicked in, can request reimbursement. If the repair was done at a Nissan dealership, the cost can be reimbursed in full.
