Less than one month after committing to South Carolina, transfer guard Treysen Eaglestaff has flipped his decision. The North Dakota junior signed with the Gamecocks on March 30 over schools such as Kansas, Kentucky and Gonzaga. However, On3's Joe Tipton reported on Sunday night that Eaglestaff would actually be changing his commitment to West Virginia instead.
Eaglestaff first gained recognition when he scored 40 points with eight made threes against Alabama on December 18 and later scored 51 points against South Dakota State in the Summit League Tournament. He was named to the All-Summit League Second-Team after averaging 18.9 points, 2.
8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 2024-25.
The Bismarck, North Dakota, native was widely regarded as one of the top shooters in the portal and was ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 14 shooting guard, the No. 37 guard and the No.
73 overall transfer. As a high school recruit, Eaglestaff was unranked. Eaglestaff will join new head coach Ross Hodge at West Virginia.
The 44-year-old comes to Morgantown, West Virginia, after eight years at North Texas, including two as the head coach. Hodge led the Mean Green to a 46-24 record in his two seasons at the helm with a pair of NIT berths. The Mountaineers narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament in 2024-25, but the team's 19-13 (10-10 Big 12) record was much improved from its 9-23 (4-14 Big 12) campaign the season before.
However, with head coach Darian DeVries out the door to Indiana after just one year, West Virginia will be starting from square one. Signing a dynamic scorer like Eaglestaff should be a strong starting point for Hodge. Read More College Basketball Coverage.
