Northern Colorado’s Anna Wilming named Big Sky Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week

The sophomore transfer from Columbus, Ohio retired all 15 batters she faced with 63 pitches and four strikeouts in a 9-0, five-inning win Friday in Ogden, Utah.

Northern Colorado softball player Anna Wilming was named the Big Sky Conference co-pitcher of the week Monday after throwing a perfect game against Weber State over the weekend.Wilming retired all 15 batters she faced with 63 pitches and four strikeouts in a 9-0, five-inning win Friday in Ogden, Utah. Wilming picked up her first save of the season in the series finale Saturday after throwing 2 2/3 innings with one hit, two walks and a strikeout.

In the three-game series, Wilming recorded a 0.00 earned run average, a 1-0 record with a save in 7.2 innings pitched, allowing no runs, one hit, two walks and four strikeouts.



She held opposing hitters to a .042 batting average.Wilming’s co-pitcher of the week honor was her second of the season.

The award is the fourth Big Sky player of the week award this season for UNC. Wilming was also named co-pitcher of the week in late March. Senior Isabelle DiNapoli was named co-pitcher of the week in early March, and senior outfielder Nya Chacon shared player of the week honors in late March.

Wilming, a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, shared the pitching award with Idaho State freshman Megan Meracle. Meracle threw the first perfect game in Bengals’ history Saturday in an 11-0 five-inning victory over Portland State. Meracle struck out six.

She finished the week with a 2-0 record, striking out 11 and holding opponents to a .130 batting average.The Bears’ series against Weber State was their final series of the regular season.

UNC (7-7 Big Sky and 16-28 overall) hosts the Big Sky Conference Tournament May 6-9 at Gloria Rodriguez Field in Greeley.Idaho State will be the top seed for the tournament as the regular-season Big Sky champion. The Bengals finished the regular season 13-2 in the Big Sky and 34-15 overall.
