PAGASADagupan City in Pangasinan logged the highest heat index in the country for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, April 30, based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).The city registered a heat index of 46 degrees Celsius (°C), following a 47°C reading, the highest in the country, on April 29.PAGASA explained that heat indices from 42°C to 51°C fall within the “danger level,” as health risks such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion increase significantly.
Prolonged exposure under such conditions may also lead to heatstroke.Seventeen other areas across the country also reached dangerous heat index levels on April 30.These include Cavite City, Cavite (44°C); Masbate City, Masbate (44°C); Pasay City, Metro Manila (43°C); Bacnotan, La Union (43°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (43°C); Iba, Zambales (43°C); Olongapo City, Zambales (43°C); Camiling, Tarlac (43°C); Tacloban City, Leyte (43°C); San Ildefonso, Bulacan (42°C); Alabat, Quezon (42°C); San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (42°C); Cuyo, Palawan (42°C); Legazpi City, Albay (42°C); Catarman, Northern Samar (42°C); Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (42°C); and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
