Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has admitted that his country has been involved in supporting and training terrorists for the past three decades. The remarks, which align with India’s long-standing accusations against Islamabad, come at a time of heightened tensions following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam , J&K, that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. During an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim where he was questioned about Pakistan’s history of backing terrorist organisations, Asif candidly stated, "We have been doing this dirty work for the US and the West, including Britain, for three decades.

"If we had not joined the war against the Soviet Union and later on, following the 9/11 attacks, Pakistan would have an unimpeachable track record," the minister added.

Asif's comments reference Pakistan's historical alignment with the US, particularly its role in supporting the mujahideen against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan during the Cold War. He also pointed to Pakistan’s cooperation with the US after the September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda attacks in New York, which led to the invasion of Afghanistan. However, Pakistan then chose to shelter Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.

It does not exist." He even refused to acknowledge the TRF and called Pakistan a "victim of terrorism." Tensions between India and Pakistan have flared up rapidly since the Pahalgam attack.
