Paresh Rawal and Nana Patekar are among the finest actors in the Hindi film industry. Having shared screen space in several films over the years, the two share a great camaraderie.

In a recent interview, Paresh Rawal praised his no-nonsense, fearless personality, and recalled an incident where he made a producer wash utensils after a meal together. He also revealed that he was the first character artist who demanded Rs 1 crore for a role. In a conversation with The Lallantop, Paresh Rawal recalled a humorous incident involving a producer who was invited to Nana Patekar’s home.

“There was this producer – I won’t name him. Nana told him to come home one day. He asked, ‘Do you eat mutton?’ The producer ate.

After the meal, Nana said – ‘You ate, right? Now go and wash the dishes.’ That is Nana Patekar- baap hai. Wo alag hi hai.

Wo mitti alag hai yaar. (He’s a legend. He’s built different, made from a different mold)," said Paresh Rawal.

He further added that Nana took one crore rupees for a role, and it created a huge stir in the film industry. “Even lead heroes didn’t ask for that much. But Nana asked for it – and got it," he said.

He added that Nana Patekar was very straightforward in demanding the amount. Paresh Rawal explained that if an artist feels a genuine connection, they might work for even one rupee. But if the are not interested, even huge sums won’t persuade them.

Citing Nana Patekar’s example, he said, “Nana Patekar is like that! He was the first character actor to demand one crore for a role. Even lead actors didn’t ask for that much back then. But Nana Patekar did- and he got it.

" Paresh Rawal was all praise for Nana Patekar’s honesty and how unfiltered he is. The two actors have shared screen space in films such as ‘Krantiveer’ (1994), ‘Ghulam-e-Mustafa’ (1997), ‘Aanch’ (2003), ‘Welcome’ (2007), and ‘Welcome Back’ (2015)..
