August 15, 1929 - April 26, 2025 Peggie Estelle Chavez, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 26 at the home of her daughter surrounded by loving friends and family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
, at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport, IA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
, at the funeral home. Peggie will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at a private burial at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Peggie was born August 15, 1929 in Bradley, Illinois, the daughter of William C.
and Mevie C. Wilkins. She was united in marriage to Apolonio Chavez, Jr.
April 19, 1947 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2011. Peggie was a self-employed small business owner at Chavez and Sons Midnight Shoe Repair, and later at Chavez Janitorial Services.
She retired in 2009 just after her 80th birthday. Peggie greeted everyone she met with a smile and loved spending time with her family. In addition to raising her two children, she was a second mom to many of their friends.
She will be remembered as "Aunt Peggie" by many nieces and nephews and enjoyed sharing stories of her adventures with them. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Chavez, Esq.; son, Dr.
David Chavez, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Chavez; step-grandsons, Steven and Joseph; and step-granddaughter, Kirsten.
Peggie was the last of her generation on both the Wilkins and Chavez sides of the family and was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Margie Madden; her brothers, Warren (Jack), Chester and Glen Wilkins; sister-in-law, Eva Kiss; brother-in-law, Eliseo Chavez and their spouses.
