Says ‘GBAJUE’ movement is gaslighting, not revolutionary actionNigerian activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Labour Party leader Peter Obi, accusing him of “hypocrisy” and “selective activism” in the face of Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic crisis.Sowore, a long-time advocate for good governance and the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, took to social media to air his grievances, calling Obi’s approach to public protests “questionably and patently dishonest, if not outrightly dumb.”According to Sowore, Obi’s role as an Economic Adviser during the Goodluck Jonathan administration undermines his moral authority to dismiss protests against previous governments’ economic policies.
“He seems to imply that protests against Jonathan’s economic policies were unnecessary, given his role in that administration. They were all supporting themselves by looting Nigeria dry, including the role of his Fidelity Bank in helping Diezani move hard cold cash,” Sowore said.Sowore questioned why Obi, who now claims to advocate for the suffering masses, remains silent or inactive as Nigerians endure what he described as the “wicked” economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s regime.
“If he believes protests were unwarranted under Jonathan, why should Tinubu’s handlers not hold the same view?. After all, they claim their economic policies are for the good of Nigerians, even though our people are dying in droves and they too have looted Nigeria dry in less than two years,” he said.He further criticised Obi’s “Obidient” movement for failing to mobilise any significant resistance during key moments of national unrest, including the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests and the fuel subsidy removal protests.
“What prevents his Obidient movement from initiating new protests?” Sowore asked.Sowore also accused Obi’s camp of maintaining silence over the controversial naira redesign policy, claiming their alliance with former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele influenced their inaction. The activist concluded that the Obidient movement has done little since its inception, arguing that it serves only to “gaslight Nigerians” and promote a recycled elite.
Drawing parallels to the #EndSARS movement, Sowore warned that Obi’s political strategy mirrors those who aim to capitalise on public outrage without taking part in the struggle.“Like #EndSARS, he is hoping to benefit from the sweat and blood of others without a finger raised to challenge injustice, even against his own ‘Obidient’ members,” he added. The post Peter Obi’s stance on protests questionable – Sowore blows hot, alleges hypocrisy appeared first on Nigerian NewsDirect.
