A record-breaking crowd attended the Meon Voices’ Spring Concert at St Peter’s Church in Bishop’s Waltham on Saturday, April 12. This was also one of the last public moments for chair Phil Coundley, who stepped down after ten years. He asked the audience to support two charities, and £790 was raised for The United Free Church and WATSAN Uganda.
The choir members thanked Phil and his wife Jenny for their commitment. Choir secretary Jane Vose presented Phil with gifts, including vouchers, Bombay Sapphire gin and glasses. Jane said: "We are all so grateful to Phil; he has led the choir for ten years of its 50-year existence, through good times and challenges.
"He has supported three different leaders, and drove its very survival after the pandemic. It is now 50-strong and brings joy to its members and audiences alike". The event was the first with new musical director Emma Dean, featuring singalongs and classic hymns.
