Plant-based Butter Chik'n Bites recalled across Canada after reported allergic reaction

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns the product contains undeclared milk and may cause serious or life-threatening reactions.

Plant-based Butter Chik’n Bites sold by the brand Plant Up is being recalled across Canada for containing undeclared milk. The recall notice issued Thursday by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) warns buyers to not consume the recalled products if allergic or sensitive to the allergen “as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.” The product affected by the recall are Plant Up’s plant-based Butter Chik’n Bites sold in 288 gram packages with the UPC code 6 28942 00613 5 and the best before date of May 9, 2026.

The CFIA advises consumers to check to see if you have the recalled product and to not serve, use, sell or distribute them. The federal agency advises buyers to throw out or return the product to the location where they were purchased. There has been one reported reaction “associated with consumption of the product,” the recall notice says, adding that the CFIA triggered the recall following test results.



The CFIA says they are conducting a food safety investigation which may lead to the recall of other products and is making sure that the products are being removed from marketplaces..
