The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation following the death of one of its officers, Inspector Maxwell Zubu, who reportedly shot himself on Tuesday in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt. Zubu, who was assigned as a security detail to a former chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, was found dead under unclear circumstances. At the time of this report, specific details surrounding the incident remain unknown.
The case has been reported to the Eagle Island police post, which operates under the Azikiwe Police Division at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu. A police source, speaking anonymously, confirmed that officers from the division visited the scene to begin preliminary inquiries. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, said a full investigation is underway.
“Yes, I can confirm [the incident], but we have commenced investigation to ascertain the cause. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a detailed probe,” she said..
