A public health alert for pork carnitas from Cargill Meat Solutions sold at Aldi has been issued due to potential metal contamination.

It would be wise for Taco Tuesday enthusiasts to check their ingredients, as their next meal could contain an unwanted crunch. On April 19, the U.S.

Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on fully-cooked pork carnitas that may be contaminated with pieces of metal. The product was made by Cargill Meat Solutions and sold at Aldi stores nationwide, per the FSIS public health alert. FSIS noted in its alert that the issue came to light during a routine inspection by Cargill.



After discovering damaged equipment, the food company raised concerns to FSIS about a potential metal contamination. Cargill Meat Solutions issued a statement to TODAY.com on April 22, noting that it had voluntarily issued the public health alert “out of an abundance of caution.

” The statement further noted that the potentially affected product is no longer available for sale in stores. So far, no injuries related to the consumption of these products have been reported, according to the public health alert. Still, customers are advised to contact a healthcare professional if injury concerns occur after consuming the product.

“Consumers who have purchased these products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase," Cargill Meat Solutions said in its statement. “As food and consumer safety is top priority, we have set up a consumer hotline to answer any questions regarding the recall at 1-844-419-1574." Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
