A proposal to paint 231m of double yellow lines on a busy A-road in is out for public consultation. A Traffic Regulation Order has been made for the A26 by . The public has been invited to give its views on the restriction for Woodgate Way and the 24-day consultation which launched on Friday (April 25) ends on Monday, May 19 at 12noon.
The reason behind the restrictions is three-fold: to keep pedestrians or those in traffic safe when they're using the road or any other road; to make it easier to use the route, whether for pedestrians or road users; and to improve the area through which the road runs. If they go ahead, the double yellow lines on Woodgate Way would be extended on both sides. On the west side from its roundabout junction with Five Green Road for a distance of 117m in a northerly direction On the east side from its roundabout junction with Tudeley Road for a distance of 114 metres in a northerly direction.
The council has not yet made a decision on whether or not to put in the double yellows and once it has consultation comments back, it will review the scheme and decide whether to go ahead or "abandon it". Double yellow lines mean you can not wait or park there. However, in some cases, you might be able to quickly stop to load or unload heavy goods.
And if you are a Blue Badge carrier, you can usually park on double yellows for up to three hours - but you must clearly display your badge. Though the AA warns "these exceptions won't always apply though, so check for local signs or kerb edge markings. If there are pairs of short yellow lines over the kerb edge you're not allowed to load at any time.
Even with a Blue Badge you musn't park anywhere where there are loading restrictions." You can support or object to the proposal for Woodgate Way by filling in a form, which you'll find by . The council says whether you object or support the proposal, you must explain what you believe to be the impact on traffic in the local area.
If you don't, your response won't be valid. The Senior Parking and Traffic Regulation Officer, Traffic Management Team, Kent Highways and Transportation, Kent County Council, Kroner House, Eurogate Business Park, Ashford, TN24 8XU..
