Pupils at Yattendon C of E Primary School have raised £300 for the World Wide Fund for Nature, which is the school’s chosen charity of the year, writes Ace Beattie. A series of fundraising events have been planned throughout the year in support of WWF. The most recent activity was an animal-themed art exhibition and ‘Wear it Wild’ dress-up day for the children, building on the school’s commitment to the Eco School’s Award.
Each child painted a picture of a wild animal, which was then framed and displayed in the school hall. Parents were then invited to see them all as part of a special exhibition. Rachel Manley, headteacher at Yattendon Primary School, said: “It has been fantastic to see our pupils so engaged with this project – from suggesting the fundraising ideas to creating such incredible artwork.
” Following a suggestion from two enthusiastic pupils, the school also held a ‘dress up as an animal day’. From subtle animal-print accessories to full-body costumes, all pupils and teachers turned the school into a zoo for the day. “Supporting a charity like WWF in protecting endangered wildlife and supporting global conservation tie in beautifully with our commitment to sustainability and the Eco-Schools award,” Mrs Manley added.
More events are planned throughout the year, proving to the children that small actions can have a big effect, while also having fun along the way..
