Qatar tribune QNA Beirut President of the Republic of Lebanon General Joseph Aoun praised Qatar’s support for Lebanon during the various circumstances it has faced, which comes in the context of the keenness of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to do everything possible to strengthen relations between the two countries. In exclusive remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) following his arrival in Doha, the President of Lebanon voiced his happiness at accepting HH the Amir’s invitation to visit Doha, noting that relations between Lebanon and Qatar have always been based on mutual respect and a commitment to doing everything possible to strengthen them, a reflection of HH the Amir’s keenness to advance them to broader horizons. President Aoun stressed that Lebanon views Qatar with great appreciation and respect and its positive role in supporting and standing by Lebanon under various circumstances.

He expressed his confidence that this visit will contribute to developing bilateral relations, achieving common interests, and promoting stability in the region. He added that it is only natural that, during the visit, he will discuss the role that the State of Qatar can play—alongside Arab brothers and international partners—in supporting Lebanon’s recovery. This includes contributing to the strengthening of state authority and the Lebanese army across the country, as well as restoring confidence in Lebanon’s relationship with the international community.

The President of Lebanon indicated that it is not unusual for Qatar to stand by Lebanon in the various circumstances it has faced, as it has not hesitated to coordinate with other fraternal and friendly countries to expand efforts to rescue it, especially as the crises have worsened and increased. He emphasised that Qatar’s support for Lebanon will undoubtedly continue, particularly if the Lebanese people succeed in fulfilling their responsibilities in terms of development and reform. This includes formulating and implementing financial, economic, and reconstruction plans that inspire confidence among donors and investors, while ensuring security and military stability by asserting Lebanese sovereignty across all territories and restricting the possession of arms to the army and official security forces.

He added that such efforts would mark a shift from a fragile phase to one that brings renewed hope to both the Lebanese people and the international community that Lebanon is on the path to reclaiming its former stature. The President of Lebanon also noted that the strong relations between Lebanon and the State of Qatar make it difficult to confine cooperation to specific sectors. However, he highlighted areas where Qatar’s expertise could greatly benefit Lebanon—particularly in the energy and gas sector, where Qatar’s extensive experience could support the development of Lebanon’s energy infrastructure.

He also pointed to the potential for revitalising the financial sector through increased Qatari investment and banking collaboration, as well as enhancing the tourism industry by promoting tourism exchange and encouraging Qatari citizens to visit Lebanon. Copy 16/04/2025 10.
