Qatar tribune Tribune News Network Doha The Department of Social Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University (QU), marked World Social Work Day as part of its annual activities organised in collaboration with civil society institutions, aiming to highlight the role of social work in enhancing community well-being. The event included showcases of achievements by civil society organisations in the field of social work, as well as student-led presentations reflecting creative contributions across various aspects of social service. Competitions were also held to raise awareness of key social work concepts.

The day witnessed strong participation from students, faculty, and professionals in the social work field. A number of national institutions that train social work students took part in the celebration, including the General Authority for Minors’ Affairs (GAMA), the Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre (AMAN), Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Al-Noor Centre for the Blind, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Naufar Centre, Qatar Red Crescent, the Judiciary Supreme Council, the Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), Nama - Social Development Centre (SDC), the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Wifaq Family Consulting Centre, and Abu Haneefa Model Independent School for Boys. Fatima Ali Al-Kubaisi, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at QU, said, “This year’s theme is ‘Strengthening the Intergenerational Solidarity for Sustainable Wellbeing,’ which highlights the importance of social work as both a science and a profession, showcasing its preventive, therapeutic, and developmental contributions to diverse human societies. This event also aims to encourage students to present their creativity in social work-related activities, connect the celebration with scientific and local developments, and learn more about the role of social work institutions in Qatari society.” Copy 16/04/2025 10.
