Race Across the World 's new series promises to be fast-paced as it returns to TV screens on Wednesday. Scenic first look photographs from Race Across the World showed the contestants competing in the race for the first time. The line-up includes five teams: former couple Yin and Gaz , young couple Fin and Sioned , brothers Melvyn and Brian , sisters Elizabeth and Letitia as well as mother and son duo Caroline and Tom .
The race starts at The Great Wall of China , with the first checkpoint in Huangling. They must make the life-changing journey of 14,000km to the finish line in Kanniyakumari, the southernmost tip of India. Flights and bank cards are banned, following suit from the other series.
The five teams have a strict budget of £1,000 per person, the lowest in the show's history. Instead they must rely on the kindness of strangers, public transport like trains and buses as well as getting jobs along the way. Inside Race Across the World's first episode with scenic photographs In scenes set to air on Wednesday, Fin and Sioned from Carmarthen in Wales are "initially overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge" but it is Sioned who comes up with a plan and it pays off with an early lead in the race, the BBC has revealed.
One telling photograph showed Fin taking a moment to himself, where he is sat on the floor by himself. They aren't the only couple to have a rocky beginning to the race as Yin and Gaz face a "tricky start" in China, the BBC said. Also a first look at the episode revealed the pair have time for sightseeing.
They take a stroll through a marriage market in Shanghai which gets them thinking about their own relationship as a formerly married couple . A fun photo showed Yin on her travels snapping pictures with her digital camera, having taken onboard the advice from previous contestants. Another pair in the race looking at the sights are brothers Brian and Melvyn in the first episode.
Brian persuades his sibling to visit the caves at Longmen Grottoes where there are thousands of Buddhist statues to see. Among the first look pictures, the brothers are seen having a great time while exploring as they slow down their pace. Meanwhile, first look photographs show Elizabeth and Letitia getting to work on their first leg of the race.
With the lowest budget in Race Across the World history at £1,000 per person, it's no surprise at least one of the teams has thrown themselves into work. Watch the Race Across the World series 5 trailer Having lived in different countries for 10 years, the sisters have got a lot of catching up to do personally. But the siblings have a plan to get ahead of the other teams, they want to use their experience of travelling and languages to get tips from the locals and opt for more rural home stays.
Also in the race are mum and son duo Caroline, 60, and Tom , 21, who are seen using public transport in the first look photographs. As Caroline has no experience with this kind of travelling, Tom takes the lead drawing on his experience of interailing with mates. Like Yin and Gaz, as well as Fin and Sioned, the mother and son face a "rocky start", according to the BBC.
Race Across the World starts on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One..
