Connecticut has long worked to provide a strong program for students in our public schools and we are proud of our leaders for taking a stand to continue this work.

We are writing to thank our state leaders, Gov. Ned Lamont and Charlene Russell-Tucker, Commissioner of the Connecticut State Department of Education, for their courageous stand in support of fairness and equality on behalf of the young people of Connecticut. Their decision to refuse to sign the letter from the U.

S. Department of Education certifying compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and elimination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs shows both courage and compassion. As Board of Education members and long time educators, we understand the importance of meeting the needs of all the children in our care and supporting their teachers.

Connecticut has long worked to provide a strong program for students in our public schools and we are proud of our leaders for taking a stand to continue this work. Thomas Jefferson said that the role of education is “to give every citizen the information he needs..

. to understand his duties to his neighbors and country.” We are proud of the diverse school population in our town and are grateful that we can continue to lead with equity to allow each of our children the opportunity to reach their potential as citizens of our country.

By assuring that strong programs for all learners continue, Governor Lamont and Commissioner Russell-Tucker have taken a stand to assure that all public school students will become part of the “educated citizenry” that Jefferson envisioned.
