Sabrina Carpenter is one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now, which makes it all the more surprising that no one spotted her cameo in a landmark Netflix series . The ‘Espresso’ singer is no stranger to the screen, having first made a name for herself as Maya Hart on the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World . Since then, she’s starred in a range of comedy and drama movies, from The Hate U Give and Clouds to Emergency and Tall Girl.

And if that weren’t enough, her 2024 music video for ‘Taste’ features Jenna Ortega and a whole host of movie references. But with her singing career taking off and launching her to global stardom, you might have missed the fact that she appeared in a Netflix classic. Sabrina Carpenter played a bully in Orange is the New Black Yes, the pop star pops up in Season 1 of the Netflix mega-hit Orange is the New Black, playing Jessica Wedge, a bully who taunts a young Alex Vause during her school days.



It’s understandable why her role may have gone unnoticed until now. Orange is the New Black started filming in 2013, making Carpenter just 13-14 years old at the time. She only stars in Season 1 Episode 9, in one flashback scene, where she bullies Alex for being low-income, taking shots at her shoes and the fact that her mom works four jobs.

However, now that Carpenter’s a household name, one fan spotted the cameo and shared their find on TikTok . Alongside the clip, they wrote, “Doing my annual Orange is the New Black rewatch when I come across young Sabrina Carpenter bullying young Alex Vause,” alongside the caption, “I don’t know I didn’t remember this, it sent me.” Related Netflix has a secret Preview Club and there’s only one way to join Fans are equally surprised, with some saying they didn’t recognize her.

“I wouldn’t have known if you didn’t point that out to me,” said one. “That’s that mean espresso,” said another, while a third added, “Why did they always have her playing a mean girl?” A fourth chimed in, “I’ve only just watched this series and didn’t even clock that’s Sabrina Carpenter!” There are plenty of comments about the fact that the singer’s so good at playing a mean girl, which is fitting, given she played Cady Heron in the Broadway musical version of Mean Girls.
