Sarah Michelle Gellar says a simple arrangement has helped her marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr. stay strong for 22 years. Speaking on Today With Jenna and Friends, Gellar was asked by hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Tiffany Haddish about the key to her long-lasting relationship.
“Separate bathrooms!” Gellar answered. “That’s it? It’s that simple?” Hager asked. “It’s that simple,” Gellar confirmed.
Antiques Roadshow expert wowed guest hid valuable box of jewelry from parents JK Rowling branded 'heinous loser' by Pedro Pascal after Supreme Court ruling Haddish suggested: “See, I was thinking it was like the [‘I Love Lucy’] thing where [Lucy and Ricky had] twin beds, and then when y’all want to get together, you push them together, and when you want to be apart, you push them apart.” “I had not thought of that,” Gellar said. “That is actually a really good idea.
” Gellar, 48, first met Prinze , 49, while filming the 1997 movie I Know What You Did Last Summer. They stayed friends for several years before going on their first date in 2000. “We were friends for a very long time,” Gellar said in a 2020 interview with People.
“We’d had many dinners before. And we were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn’t make it out and we decided to still go.” After that first date, the Hollywood actor said he realized he wanted to be with Gellar.
“I didn’t go on dates with other girls, nor did I even want to pursue dates with other girls,” Prinze told People. While Gellar’s advice about bathrooms was casual, she has also shared a more serious view on what it takes to keep a marriage going. In a 2024 interview with Fox News Digital, she talked about the need for consistent effort. “I think everything takes work in you, whether it’s a friendship or a work relationship or a marriage,” Gellar said.
“You have to put the work in,” she said, adding that “we live in an extremely disposable society now.” “Your phone breaks, you don’t fix it,” she continued. “You get a new one.
And I think that’s a lot of the attitude toward relationships.”.
