Homemade scones served up with lashings of clotted cream and jam are fitting for National Tea Day, yet some might be daunted by the process of making them. Sitting delightfully on the fence between cake and bread, these treats are a joy to eat fresh out of the oven, especially for a warm, comforting breakfast. ITV chef Clodagh McKenna assured her followers on social media that they can be ready in just 10 minutes with her recipe .
Chef Clodagh McKenna took to her Instagram @clodagh_McKenna to share her foolproof scones recipe in a series of step-by-step baking instructions. Alongside her video , she said: “I’m baking my easy 10-minute scones in today's IGTV series. Anyone can make these scones, the recipe is so simple.
” The beauty of this recipe lies in its versatility; you’re free to mix through a variety of items such as chocolate chips or berries, or go down the savoury route with cheese and herbs. 450g plain flour Two teaspoons of baking powder Two teaspoons of sugar Pinch of sea salt 100g butter, chilled and cubed 300ml milk To make your scones, start things off by preheating your oven to 200C/180C Fan /Gas Mark six. Begin your dough by sieving the flour and baking powder into a large bowl.
Next, mix in the sugar and a pinch of salt. Get your fingertips working as you rub the cubed butter into the flour blend until it looks like fine breadcrumbs. Finally, pour in the milk bit by bit, mixing until you have a tender dough.
A post shared by Clodagh McKenna Herbert (@clodagh_mckenna) Roll the dough out on a floured worktop until it’s about one centimetre thick. Then, use a pastry cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out your scone shapes. Give the scones a light brush with some leftover milk and a dusting of sugar before arranging them on a floured baking sheet.
Pop them into the oven that’s been preheated and let them bake for a quarter of an hour. After they’re done, transfer them to a wire rack to cool down. In the comments section, Clodagh's fans have been quick to share their experiences with her recipe .
For example, @cultureofjoyfilledlearning commented: “Just made these gluten-free for Sunday morning. My kids love them! We added fresh blueberries at your suggestion.” @brinutbutter wrote: “Just made these and they are delicious! So simple I was able to do it with a baby in one arm.
