Sebastian Stan owes one of his most major roles to his stint in Hot Tub Time Machine . If you didn’t know, the now 42-year-old actor played a ski patrol officer named Blaine in the 2010 comedy flick. A year later, he booked his iconic role of Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Solider, in the Marvel franchise.

In a recent interview, he revealed how the two very different roles are connected. Keep reading to find out more..



. “I was actually struggling with work. I had just gotten off the phone with my business manager, who told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from Hot Tub Time Machine ,” he told Vanity Fair .

The residuals allowed Sebastian to continue his path in Hollywood, which ultimately led to him landing the role of Bucky Barnes soon after. Fast forward to 2025, and Sebastian is currently playing Bucky in the upcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts . Earlier this week, it was revealed why he seems to be missing from the movie’s promo events.
