Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has been given the prestigious traditional title of “Maga Isan Hausa” by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk. The announcement comes after Senator Dickson attended Barirah Usman Aliyu’s wedding in Kaduna State, which provided him with an opportunity to engage with key figures and commend Kaduna Governor Uba Sani’s efforts. Senator Dickson shared the news on social media, thanking the Emir of Daura and highlighting his successful visit to Kaduna State.

He praised Governor Sani’s dedication to stabilising the region, particularly the Kaduna South Senatorial District and promoting development projects. “I congratulated and encouraged him to continue doing what is best and right for the good people of Kaduna State and Nigeria,” Senator Dickson said. He emphasised the need to support leaders who prioritise peace and development, regardless of political affiliation.

Senator Dickson’s “Maga Isan Hausa” title is a significant honour, and its specific meaning will be revealed at the official turbaning ceremony in Daura. Details about the ceremony’s date will be announced shortly. While Senator Dickson receives recognition and praise elsewhere, his Bayelsa West constituency has rallied behind his continued public service.

The Bayelsa West Youth Congress (BWYC), which endorsed Senator Dickson for continued representation in the National Assembly, issued a strong statement condemning what they see as divisive tactics used by some politicians in the senatorial district. The BWYC leadership issued a press release urging unity and continued support for Senator Dickson, highlighting his contributions to the region and the Ijaw people. The statement specifically targeted “wicked zoning propaganda” being distributed in the Ekeremor LGA.

“At a time when we should be uniting behind our outstanding senator, some are attempting to divide us,” said Comrade Ebide Brown, Chairman of the BWYC. He highlighted Senator Dickson’s contributions, which included the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, hospitals in both Sagbama and Ekeremor, key appointments, and the vision for the Agge Deep Seaport. The BWYC also addressed future elections, calling discussions about the 2027 Senate and House of Representatives elections premature.

They warned against the “viruses” of betrayal and the “Pull Him Down” mentality that pervades the Ijaw, urging constituents to prioritise unity and support Senator Dickson’s continued representation. The Legacy Continuation Group Bayelsa West has joined the outpouring of support. The group urged Senator Dickson to re-run for Senate, citing his unwavering support for the Ijaw Nation and advocacy for justice, equity, and equality.

The Legacy Continuation Group’s Lead Conveners, Edeinotu Pereye and Gen Guwon Abenzi, stated that Senator Dickson has dedicated his life to serving our people regardless of political affiliation. “The Ijaw nation requires a voice to advocate for our people and protect our interests on a national scale.” The combined statements of the BWYC and Legacy Continuation Group demonstrate a strong groundswell of support for Senator Dickson’s continued representation, as well as deep concerns about political divisions in Bayelsa West.

As the 2027 elections approach, the next few months will be critical in determining the region’s political future..
