Television actor Shoaib Ibrahim addresses the intense backlash over his Pahalgam post, clarifying that he had no knowledge of the terror attack while travelling. Television actor Shoaib Ibrahim has finally addressed the severe backlash he faced after sharing a post about his trip to Pahalgam, Kashmir, in the wake of the recent terrorist attack that left 26 people dead. The actor, who was vacationing in the valley with his wife Dipika Kakar and their son, found himself at the receiving end of social media outrage for what many perceived as an “insensitive" post.
Following their return from Kashmir, Shoaib had informed fans that he and Dipika were safe and, in the same post, mentioned an upcoming vlog. Netizens slammed him for promoting content while acknowledging a tragedy, calling the post “tone-deaf" and “insensitive." In his latest vlog, Shoaib opened up about the controversy and expressed his dismay over being singled out.
He questioned why only he and Dipika were being targeted when film promotions, music launches, and regular social activities continued elsewhere without similar outrage. “Why just me? Why not others?" he asked. Narrating his side of the story, Shoaib explained, “We flew from Srinagar to Delhi on April 22.
While we were mid-flight, the Pahalgam attack occurred, and we had no knowledge about it. When we landed and switched our phones on, we got flooded with messages inquiring about our safety. Initially, the news mentioned only a couple of injuries.
We thought it was responsible to inform our well-wishers that we were safe, and in the same breath, I mentioned the vlog — but without any intention of promoting it." He continued, “Once more information came in, the gravity of the situation became clear. We were devastated.
But the story I had posted earlier was never meant to undermine the seriousness of the attack. Despite that, people started abusing me, my wife, and even my family. The kind of language I have been subjected to in my DMs is heartbreaking.
" Shoaib further argued that life has not come to a halt elsewhere either. “Vloggers are uploading daily videos, actors are promoting films and songs. Even ordinary people are continuing with their lives — eating, working, celebrating small moments.
Why, then, is only my family being targeted? Are we special for you?" he questioned. Meanwhile, Dipika Kakar has maintained silence on the controversy so far. The couple, who have been sharing glimpses from their Kashmir trip on social media, had taken the vacation to celebrate their son Ruhaan’s first outing.
