It is not the first time the pub has flooded

A popular pub at a country park estate has had to close today after it flooded. The Edgcumbe Arms at Cremyll has said it will not open on Wednesday, April 16, after torrential rain flooded the pub. The pub has said this is not the first time it has been flooded due to South West Water's "neglect" of the waste and storm water system.

The pub blamed the "shocking drainage system" in Cremyll and said it regularly floods. After being forced to close early on Tuesday, the pub said: "Temporary Closure due to flooding. With great regret we will be closed tomorrow (Weds) due to the pub flooding today.

"We are in the process of contacting all of our bookings. "We very much hope South West Water and Source for Business will sort their shocking drainage system in Cremyll very soon as every year this happens due to neglect of their waste and storm water system." The pub has been in contact with its bookings to inform them of the closure, but the unexpected closure comes just days before Easter weekend as tourists flock to the area.

Local Labour MP Anna Gelderd was also made aware of the issue. She said: "Hi, so sorry to hear this and thank you for notifying me. I’ve contacted South West Water and asked for them to look into this.

Please get in touch if me and my office can help." South West Water has been contacted by PlymouthLive for comment. The Met Office issued a 24-hour yellow warning for rain across the South West, as flooding and widespread disruption to travel was expected.

Forecasters said river levels were likely to rise, which may risk flooding in low lying areas..
