Shroud is concerned for the future of Marathon as the FPS and extraction shooter savant warns PC aim assist is ‘ruining’ the experience in favor of those on console. Two years on from its reveal, Bungie’s Marathon reboot of sorts is now upon us. This stylish multiplayer-only iteration drops teams of up to three players into vast open maps, encouraging squads to engage and loot up before extracting with high-tier loot.
That’s the gameplay loop in short, and it’s one that’s drawing plenty of attention as Bungie makes its debut in the genre epitomized by the likes of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. It’s not all been smooth sailing in the first public build, however, as those with access to the Closed Alpha test have been critical for a few key reasons. Chief among them, Bungie’s decision to include a form of aim assist for those using mouse and keyboard.
Marathon’s PC aim assist controversy explained Aim assist has long been a contentious subject in the gaming community. For those on console, it’s a necessity, but for those on PC, the more accurate inputs are able to overcome the need for any form of automatic help. This divide has been around for as long as there’s been crossplay, but now, Bungie has sought to bridge the gap for the first time, leveling the playing field with aim assist for both parties.
I honestly don't think I'd play marathon at all at launch if mouse aim assist is still in the game. It felt like I literally had an aimbot and made every PVP encounter feel shallow. https://t.
co/bXnMTd22St When aiming with a mouse on PC, players have noticed a particularly strong auto-aim function. It kicks in and essentially magnetizes your aim to a given target, helping you land your shots. Some egregious examples have caused controversy online as viral clips have blasted the game as being “dead on arrival” if the feature isn’t removed.

Shroud urges Bungie to rethink Marathon’s PC aim assist Many other influencers have chimed in on the matter too, though none more prevalent than ex-CS and Valorant pro shroud . After pumping plenty of hours into the early Alpha period, shroud came to the same conclusion.
“They need to just remove the mouse aim assist,” he said definitively. “The magnetism, they just need to throw that out. “I get that they’re trying to balance between consoles and PCs, for crossplay, but it’s only going to ruin the PC part of the game.
” From his perspective, Bungie is striving to “help” those on PC feel more balanced in line with those on console. In the process, though, it’s their efforts are simply “watering down” the PC experience. “Mouse and keyboard players feel like sh** because you’re like ‘hey, here’s some aim magnetism to help you fight controllers.
“PC players would rather just improve their mechanics on mouse and keyboard than have an assist.” Marathon devs break silence on mouse aim assist controversy Given the backlash surrounding this particular aspect of Marathon, devs are hearing the feedback loud and clear. In fact, they’ve already addressed the matter publicly, appearing on ‘JesseKazam’ and ‘bearki’s streams to discuss the topic.
“[It’s] very much on our radar,” Marathon Gameplay Director Andrew Witts said. “[We’re] having lots of conversations about that.” Explaining the logic behind PC aim assist, Witts clarified that it’s a “purposeful test” on their end.
“We wanted to try a version of normalizing the delta between two input paradigms. “We’re purposely testing it out because our assumption is not that we’re going to get it right. We wanted to use this opportunity to try it out.
