KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Economy Ministry have established a special task force aimed at closely monitoring projects approved by the Ministry at the state and district levels.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Economy Ministry have established a special task force aimed at closely monitoring projects approved by the Ministry at the state and district levels.The task force is designed to ensure transparency and curb corruption, misappropriation, and abuse of power in the implementation of these projects. MACC said in a statement the terms of reference for the task force include several key measures aimed at improving governance and project management across the nation.

"Among the primary functions of the task force is the sharing of information between the Economy Ministry and MACC regarding the amount of funding allocated to each state and district. "The task force will also conduct unannounced inspections and investigations to detect any corruption or malpractice within the projects," the statement read.In addition, the team will focus on identifying weaknesses in existing procedures and will work to improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure more effective budget allocation, project monitoring, and implementation.



MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki praised the Economy Ministry for its proactive approach, highlighting the seriousness and transparency shown by the Economy Minister, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, in taking action to prevent the misuse of public funds."The seriousness and openness demonstrated by the Economy Minsitry are critical in ensuring the integrity of projects funded by the Ministry for the benefit of the people," said Azam. "This approach should serve as a model for other ministries and agencies," he added.

The establishment of the task force comes as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and improve governance in the public sector, ensuring that public funds are utilised effectively and in the best interests of the rakyat.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
