Stray bullet kills 12-year-old, seven injured in Kaduna

By Austine Agbo Emmanuel, KadunaA tragic incident involving a locally made firearm has claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and left seven others injured in the Abakpa area of Kaduna State.The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed that the mishap, which occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m.

on Monday, was caused by the unintentional discharge of a Dane gun. Contrary to initial reports suggesting an explosion, the police clarified that no bomb was involved.In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, security operatives responded to a distress call that initially reported a suspected blast along Josawa Road.



Upon arrival, they discovered that the injuries sustained were a result of a firearm accident.The deceased has been identified as Abubakar Muhammed, a resident of Josawa Road. Seven others who sustained various injuries are currently receiving medical treatment.

High-ranking security officials, including the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, the Garrison Commander, the Director of the State Department of Security Services (DSS), and the Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.Preliminary investigations conducted by the Police Anti-Bomb Unit confirmed that the incident was caused by an accidental discharge from a Dane gun, and not an explosive device.The Police Command expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and wished those injured a swift recovery, assuring the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident.
